About Jack III
Born in Hollywood, FL to Ms. Gwin Presley, his American mother, Jack III was born with the talent to create. His Bahamian father, Jack II is also a gifted artist, and that talent and skill was passed down from father to son. Jack III started drawing around the age of 3 and immediately his talent could be seen. In elementary, he won several awards from Broward County. In junior high school, he did not feel challenged in his art classes and felt as though he had surpassed the level of instruction. He could already achieve, instinctively, what they were trying to teach. By the time he started high school he had become bored with the art that was being taught, and actually failed art his freshman year. During his senior year of high school, his fire was rekindled, when Mrs. Myers, his art teacher introduced him to acrylic paint, and allowed him to create his own pieces. From that point on he continued to add new media to his art portfolio and continued to challenge himself in perfecting new art forms.
At twenty, looking with an entrepreneurial spirit, he wanted to begin his own art company to create and sell his original art work. However, the company that he used to help him get on his way, turned out to be fly-by-night, and disappeared with his start-up money.
After high school he was commissioned to do drawings for different events, and eventually went to Broward Community College majoring in Graphics Technology. He was the staff artist for the campus art and literature magazine, P’an Ku, and won the Most Artistic award. During and after college, he was commissioned to do several black history pieces, as well as a wall mural in Miami, Florida at Word of Truth. His work was also exhibited at the BCC Art Gallery, and throughout South Florida. In 2007 while living in his father's native country of Nassau, Bahamas, Jack III held his first exhibition where he introduced Bahamian artist Deon Lewis. Jack III completed another mural after returning to the US, at Life International Ministries in Smyrna, Georgia.
Jack III creates art using acrylic paints, conté, ink, color pencils, and many other medias. His art cannot be defined to any one genre, however the art forms that most closely resemble his style, is more of a mixture of impressionism and realism. He paints life and meaning. Expressing what we so often try to say with words.
